The largest known specimen (NCSM 14345) is estimated to have measured 11.5 m (38 ft) from snout to tail tip and weighed 5.7 t (6.3 short tons) to 6.2 t (6.8 short tons), with an upper maximum weight of 7.25 t (7.99 short tons) within the realm of possibility for this specimen . In 1991, paleontologists Jorge Orlando Calvo and José Fernando Bonaparte named Andesaurus , which refers to the Andes Mountains and also includes the Greek word sauros ("lizard"), because of the proximity of this animal's remains to the Andes . The only known material of Andesaurus is a partial skeleton consisting of a series of four vertebrae from the lower back, as well as 27 tail vertebrae, divided up into two series from separate parts of the tail .
The function of the spines remains unknown, although they may have been involved in communication , fat storage, or temperature control . Aside from its vertebrae, Acrocanthosaurus had a typical allosauroid skeleton .

as it became known after an actual scientific description three years later, means high-spined lizard from Atoka County. However, it isnt unique to Atoka County.
